Headwaters School, a Pre-K through grade 12 independent day school serving over 530 students across its three campuses in Austin, TX, is seeking full-time Early Arrival and Library Assistant Teacher in our Elementary School for the 2024-2025 Academic Year.

This position reports directly to our Elementary School Director. Our ideal candidate is passionate about providing exceptional child care, and loves working with children and within a team. Our Elementary Campus teaches a Montessori based curriculum and we pride ourselves on our personal connection with every family and child we have in our care. 

 

Title: Early Arrival and Library Assistant Teacher

 Hours:  7:15 am - 4:30 pm, with a midday break 

 

Duties Include:

  • Serves as the Early Arrival Campus Teacher supporting students prior to their classroom opening.
  • Assist in the daily preparation and management of library activities and administrative tasks.
  • Assist students and staff with library resources including check in/out, shelving, circulation.
  • Assist teachers, including specials teachers, in the classroom and on campus with children aged 5 years - 10 years of age, helping the lead teachers with the daily curriculum schedule and outside play.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy indoor and outdoor environment for all children in coordination with the other guides to provide a safe space for learning.
  • Support students and colleagues in the after school care program.
  • Develop and maintain an environment that meets the sensitive period/plane of development of the children they work with.
  • Maintain an ongoing dialogue with your team to coordinate curriculum integration and implementation, as well as maintain communication with parents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED, required
  • Bachelor's degree, preferred
  • Passion for working with young children
  • Familiarity or experience with the Montessori philosophy and/or environment
  • Strong commitment to equity and inclusion practices and curriculum in the classroom
  • A commitment to personal and professional development
  • Is a creative individual and team player
  • Ability to maintain calm and focus
  • Operates with a high level of integrity 
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

 Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stoop, bend, walk, and reach heights of six (6) feet.
  • Must be able to lift or pull book bags and equipment up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard.
  • May be required to work in close/cramped quarters.

 

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position and compensation is competitive for the greater Austin area.
